Advantages and Disadvantages of Technology

An advantage always comes with a disadvantage.  In this explanation I will be explaining some of the advantages and disadvantages about being online and having technology.

Firstly an advantage, an advantage about technology’s existence is that it is a much more efficient way to do things. It is faster and it is a way to

learn on a global scale without students having to leave their classroom. When online you can research about things globally, it can occur from anywhere around the world. Luckily, google has been supplied with many websites and blogs that can help provide any information that has been requested. Sadly, with this advantage comes many disadvantages for example scams, ads, and viruses. These can all pop up at any time and on any site. These can cause lags and give other people from anywhere around the world the opportunity to hack into your device and blackmail you, steal your information, catfish you, cyber bully you, stalk you, and many more harmful things. These things can cause death, pain, depression, and suffer.

The last piece of information I have is that google doesn’t always tell the truth. You may be doing some research and go onto a website like wikipedia, but on wikipedia anyone can add information. If you were to research about history and go onto wikipedia you don’t know if it’s telling the truth or not. Therefore, you will have to go on several websites to see if it has the same information you have been given. This is time consuming, especially if you only have a little bit of time for your research.

These were some of the advantages and disadvantages about having and using technology either too much or things that happen naturally. I hope you have learnt something in this piece of writing.

The film that my group created was about sending positive messages to everyone. We helped people out and did nice things for them like being their friend, helping them with something, and lending a helping hand. Writing Explanation!

This term our focus for writing is explanations. Last week we had to write an explanation on how technology either benefits people or not. Here is my piece of writing.

Title	Technology Itself
Introduction	An advantage always comes with a disadvantage.  In this explanation I will be explaining some of the advantages and disadvantages about being online and having technology.
Information 1st element	Firstly an advantage, an advantage about technology’s existence is that it is a much more efficient way to do things. It is faster and it is a way to learn on a global scale without students having to leave their classroom. When online you can research about things globally, it can occur from anywhere around the world. Luckily, google has been supplied with many websites and blogs that can help provide any information that has been requested. Sadly, with this advantage comes many disadvantages for example scams, ads, and viruses. These can all pop up at any time and on any site. Information 2nd element	Secondly, another advantage that comes with a disadvantage. Online work and games. It’s easier and faster to type in your work but also you can cheat and with cheating you don’t get anywhere. It’s smarter, and easier to work online too! Something fun online are games. Games and social media. Games are fun but they’re addictive and sometimes being online too much can lead to stress and even sleeping disorder. Stress can harm you by  affecting your thoughts and your behaviour which could lead to depression.

Film Festival!

On Friday, November 3 2017 we have our very first Glen Taylor School Film Festival at 11am. This is where we will showcase all videos that have been created from years 4 - 8. Some of the films we will be watching have been chosen to go through to the cinemas in sylvia park. They will be showing in on Friday November, 10 2017.

My name in sign language!

For inquiry this term we are learning about the 3 main languages in New Zealand which are Sign Language, English, and Maori. First, we learnt how to do the alphabet in sign language then, we had to create a google drawing with us spelling our name in sign language. Here is mine:

Equivalent decimal and percentage of a fraction!

Yesterday for maths we learnt how to find the equivalent decimal and percentage of a fraction. So, if we had 1/2 we had to find the equivalent decimal and percentage of the fraction which would be:

Decimal: 0.5 Percentage: 50%

Back to school!

Term 4 has just begun. This term is supposed to be the term we have a lot of fun. This week is the first week of term 4, we have already had a lot of fun!

Smart Learners - Posting to a blog

In cybersmart the past 2 weeks we have been checking our blog posts to make sure we have done everything correctly. For example: Adding a title, Adding labels, describing our post, scheduling it (if needed), previewing it to make sure it's how you want it, and posting it. We made a copy of a google drawing that described everything we needed to do, we then had to replace the image with one of our own we had posted on our blog. After replacing the image we had to fill in the text boxes with what we had done. Here is a photo of what mine looks like.

Buddy Class!

A few times a week we meet with our buddy class and we work on our art/inquiry together. Me and my buddies are creating a model of our school present and previous. I'm creating a model of our school in 1964. Here is a photo of what we are trying to create. (1964 version)

Writing Warmup!

Before we start writing we do a warm up. One of the warm ups we do is Bus Stop. When we play Bus Stop you have to try and  be the first person to finish. There are 10 different categories, we are then given a letter and have to think of something starting with the letter for each category. The first person finished has to say "Bus Stop" They then have to call out their answers. If the letter was A and the the name they chose for girl was Amelia then they would be awarded 10 points, if someone else got a different answer then they would also be awarded 10 points. If they were to have the same answer they would only get 5 points. If they didn't complete the answer they get 0 points. The person with the most points at the end of the game... WINS!

Cybersmart with Mrs Grant!

Every Wednesday we have Cybersmart with Mrs Grant. Cybersmart is where we learn how to be smart online and learn more about Cyber safety. Today Mrs Grant taught us how to use Screencastify to record on our chromebook, here are some photos.

Maritime Museum!

Maritime Museum!

On Tuesday 29th August Rooms 11, 12, and 7 went on a trip to Maritime Museum. We were put into groups and were able to look around the museum. When the day was almost over we went on a ferry ride around the harbour bridge. Here are a few photos we took!
